Myself Subodh Umesh Deolekar, working as an Assistant Professor in Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Vile Parle (W). I have completed Sangeet Visharad in Tabla from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in year 2013.

My musical journey started at the age of 11 in the year 1999. My primary education in Tabla is done with Shri. Dashrath Kadam. Later in 2004, My Father took me to Vyas Sangeet Vidyalaya, Dadar for the further training in Tabla. There I met Shri. Arun Kundekar, my tabla teacher with whom I started the rest of the training in Tabla.

Being a young kid, I always used to ask questions related to music, Tabla and Kundekar sir always used to satisfy my curious mind with his unique style of giving examples with scientific approach.

I feel myself fortunate to be part of this Vidyalaya and disciple of Shri. Arun Kundekar. During my musical journey I got many opportunities to exhibit my tabla performances in various platforms, one of which was memorable while performing in National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai. Now while perusing a Ph.D. in computer science from University of Mumbai, I got an opportunity to work in the field of Musicology, where I am using knowledge gained in the domain of tabla to create a computational creative system.

Vyas Sangeet Vidyalaya organizes various theory as well as practical demonstration programs for students to encourage them in their field of study. The main aim of such programs is to motivate students to participate and perform their art, which builds the confidence in them and makes them richer with the experience.

There’s always a connect between an art and spirituality which helps an artist to enjoy his/her art and translate the same to the audience. I feel my journey towards this has just began and I am happy that Vyas Sangeet Vidyalaya and Shri. Arun Kundekar plays a major role in this.
